Bitte stell dich unseren Lesern vor, die dich vielleicht noch nicht kennen.
Ich bin Roger Johansson und lebe in Schweden, in einer kleinen Stadt südlich von Stockholm. Live-Musik war schon immer ein großer Teil meines Lebens, und seit ein paar Jahren habe ich nun auch die Möglichkeit, Fotos zu machen. Dieser Traum ist wahr geworden.
Ich habe in meinen Teenagerjahren mit der Fotografie angefangen, mit den guten alten analogen Kameras und Fotofilmen. Ich hatte meine eigene Dunkelkammer, die Jahre gingen weiter und ich verlor das Interesse.
Vor etwa zehn Jahren habe ich wieder zur Fotografie zurückgefunden, da mir das digitale Zeitalter sehr entgegenkam und ich die Arbeit nun ganz einfach am Computer erledigen kann.
Welche Motive begeistern dich?
Ich fotografiere immer gerne Bands, die sich auf der Bühne viel bewegen, und versuche, die Dynamik und Atmosphäre einzufangen.
Wie lange hat es gedauert, bis du deinen persönlichen Stil und deine Technik gefunden hast?
Als ich meinen ersten Instagram-Account gestartet habe, habe ich versucht, einen persönlichen Stil zu finden. Ich weiß nicht, ob es mir gelungen ist, aber ich habe von einigen gehört, dass sie sehen können, dass es meine Arbeiten sind. Das macht mich glücklich.
Welche Art von Magazinen, Büchern oder Tutorials von anderen Fotografen helfen dir?
Inspiration finde ich einfach bei anderen Fotografen auf Instagram.
Mit welcher Kamera und zusätzlichem Equipment arbeitest du meistens?
Ich benutze eine Canon 1dx mkII und mein Lieblingsobjektiv ist ein Sigma Art 14mm, manchmal habe ich auch eine 1dx als Backup.
Wie bereitest du dich auf eine Liveshow vor?
Wenn es eine Band gibt, mit der ich nicht so vertraut bin, schaue ich sie mir auf Youtube an, um zu sehen, ob es etwas gibt, worauf ich während der ersten drei Songs achten muss. Das hat mir manchmal sehr geholfen.
Welche Künstler oder Bands hörst du privat am liebsten?
Im Moment bin ich total begeistert von The Wildhearts, außerdem Bands wie Blackberry Smoke, The Dead Daisies, Ramones, Status Quo, Lizzy, Social Distortion…. u.a.
Was war für dich der aufregendste oder schönste Moment während einer Fotosession in Verbindung mit einem Konzert?
Ich war einmal der einzige Fotograf im Fotograben, so dass die „weibliche“ Künstlerin nur mich im Blick hatte und am Ende ein paar schöne Aufnahmen entstanden sind.
Welche Einstellung an deiner Kamera verwendest du am häufigsten?
Ich benutze den manuellen Modus, Blende 200-300, f 3-4, ISO 3200 oder 6400
Wie viel Zeit und Aufwand investierst du in die Nachbearbeitung deiner Bilder?
Das variiert, von Minuten bis Stunden. Ich verwende Adobe Lightroom.

This time we interviewed Roger Johansson from Sweden about his work in concert photography. On Instagram it is better known as „12 Bar Photo“ and inspires many users there with live shots of Stacie Collins, Jill Johnson or the Backyard Babies
Please introduce yourself to our readers who might not know you yet – who are you, since when do you photograph and how did you get into photography?
I’m Roger Johansson, based in Sweden in a small town south of Stockholm. Live Music has always been a big part of my life, and now for the last couple of years I’ve got the chance to take photos as well. The dream came true.
I got into photography in my teens, the good old analog cameras and film. Had my own darkroom, the years went on and I lost interest.
Found my way back to photography about ten years ago, as the digital era suited me just fine. Doin the work on the computer.
What are the subjects and motifs that fascinate you and what was perhaps the most unusual assignment you have ever accepted or implemented?
I always enjoy to shoot bands that moves a lot on stage, like the action and trying to capture it.
How long did it take you to find your personal style and technique?
When I started my first Insta account I tried to add a personal style. I don’t know if I succeeded but I’ve heard from some that they can see it’s my work. Makes me happy.
What kind of magazines, books or tutorials from other photographers help you?
I just found inspiration from other photographers on Instagram.
Which camera and additional equipment are you using most of the time?
I use a Canon 1dx mkII and my fav lens is a Sigma Art 14mm, also got a 1dx for backup sometimes.
In terms of concert photography – How do you prepare for a show or the individual artists?
If there’s a band that I’m not so familiar with, I’ll check them out on Youtube to see if there’s something to look out for during the first three songs. Helped me a lot sometimes.
Which artists or bands do you enjoy listening to most in your private life?
At the moment I’m totally hooked on The Wildhearts, also bands like Blackberry Smoke, The Dead Daisies, Ramones, Status Quo, Lizzy, Social Distortion…. among others
What was the most exciting or beautiful moment for you during a photo session in connection with a concert?
Once I was the only photographer in the pit so the ”female” artist only had me to look at, and ended up with some nice shots.
What setting on your camera do you use most often?
I use Manual mode, shutter 200-300, f 3-4, ISO 3200 or 6400
How much time and effort are you spending on post-processing your images?
It varies, from minutes to hours. I use Adobe Lightroom and Instagram to share my work
